Top 5 Fundamental Web Design Tips
There is such as wide variety of content on the Internet these days, designing a successful website that will attract decent levels of visitors can be very challenging. It is important to learn as much about web design as you can before you start creating the layout and content of your website, and make sure you consider these five fundamental web design tips:
- Navigation – make sure your website is easy to navigate around by creating clear, concise links to each page from the main homepage, and also links between pages that contain related content. For example if you have an ‘About Us’ section detailing what services/products your company provides make sure you create links in this page to the other relevant pages containing information about your prices, services or product catalogues, so that visitors can easily find out more if they want to.
- Layout – Most Internet users are very experienced at visiting websites, and to save wasting their time will literally scan a website in a few seconds and decide instantly if they want to stay and learn more. It is therefore vitally important that the layout is attractive and easy to read, and free from clutter or too many adverts. Messy, unorganised websites will put people off immediately, as will websites that have more adverts than content.
- Loading Times – a lot of people now have broadband, but not everyone will have quick loading times, so it is important that you minimise your website file sizes (graphics, photos, flash etc) so that your loading times are quick for all users. People simply will not visit your website if it is too slow and takes longer that a few seconds to load up each page.
- eCommerce – if you want to set up payment facilities on your website then you will need to make sure these are secure, up to date and encrypted, to protect your customers sensitive information and ensure that check out is quick and easy.
- Social aspect – a good way to try and encourage visitors to stay longer on your site and visit again in the future is to set up social media functions such as blogs and forums.
- Browser Compatibility – not everyone uses Microsoft Internet Explore, so make sure your website is compatible with all of the leading browser software available, including the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator and Opera.
Oh I see, I posted one additional point which is though familiar to everybody but is most important

I think this is such a nice blog. In my case I’m looking for some good advice when putting videos in my own blogs, for example, I have found a web called Vismo Media, where you can find videos uploaded by people such as me or you, not necessarily pro’s. I believe people want not only to read information, but to see, so maybe we can put some videos from there in one of my blogs, and we can also make extra money from Vismo Media, at least that’s what they explain in an interactive pie. Check out and tell me what you think http://www.vismomedia.com
If you have another site, please share it to me, I’ll be glad to read from you.
This is a very good list. Sometimes while working on a website I get too engulfed in additional things I can add to the site I lose focus. A similar list like this hangs above my desk to remind me of what’s important.
